When the logs are delivered to our construction yards, they are decked to air dry with the bark on, The moisture content of the logs is approximately 15-20%. Prior to construction of your home, the bark and cambium layer are removed with a drawknife, which ensures you of clean bright logs. Using full length logs, skilled craftsmen with chainsaws, axes and chisels now begin to turn your dream into reality. The Norwegian shrink fit saddle notch at the corners and a lateral scribe fit or Swedish cope between the logs are filled with fiberglass insulation to assure a warm home. Because of the scribe fit construction, "chinking" is not required but we do recommend "caulking" the interior of the building after a couple of years which will maintain the air tightness of your home.  Steel through bolts at the corner notches, around large openings and either side of doors plus steel drift pins, will assure you superior structural integrity.

Once the log shell has been built in our construction yard, all window and door openings are cut out, key­wayed and flared back. These openings are cut to accept your window/door units, with an allowance made for the settling, All log floor joists are pre-flattened on top, ready for the flooring material. The ridge and purlins are also pre-flattened at the correct roof pitch and are ready for the owners roofing. The ends of all logs are sanded, chamfered and curled on top. Prior to shipping, all logs are tagged and numbered for easy re-construction. A log master from ORIGINAL LOG HOMES LTD. will supervise the re-construction on your prepared foundation. This takes about 2 days depending on the size of the home, weather conditions and most importantly the number of people you have helping. Due to the many varied locations, freight and crane costs are NOT included in the log package price unless otherwise noted. Delivery time for a log package is between 8-12 weeks depending on the time of year and how busy the yards are.
